09 Dec Mel & Alex – A TeePee wedding in Gumeracha – By Dave
When I met with Mel and Alex last year I knew this was going to be a special wedding. They explained it would be up on Alex’s family property in Gumeracha. 360 acres surrounded by pine forest, vineyards and rolling hills. Did I mention that the house was built in 1836, is Heritage listed and possibly the oldest house in continuous residence in South Australia? “Oh yeah…. and we’re having the reception in a teepee”… BOOM !
They’ve occupied the house for 30 years, and when they arrived, planted an abundance of trees and assorted greenery to shelter the house from the harsh conditions. This created a little oasis and probably saved the house from recent bush fires which swept through the area and their property, claiming the surrounding pine forest and a bunch of other very old gumtrees.
Getting ready in the same house, the girls claimed upstairs while the boys were kept at bay on ground level. Photography was important to them… which made me happy and excited! They asked me to tell their story with an emphasis on their connection to the property. The weather was amazing and here’s how it went down…
