Laura and Justin | The Beach House Glenelg + Adelaide Botanic Gardens Wedding
This is embarrassing really….Laura and Justin were married in November last year and I have only just got around to blogging about their wedding day. And even then it’s only a preview !
Their ceremony unfolded by a pretty little lake in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and their reception was upstairs at The Beach House in Glenelg…a lovely venue I’d never experienced before. From the outside it’s more of a ‘funhouse’ theme park looking building but tucked away upstairs overlooking the ocean is a very sweet function room. Service was great and beer was cold (and more importantly Coopers or Corona
More images of Laura and Justin’s day to follow soon.
Our Studio | King William Road, Hyde Park
I realised a little earlier today that I’ve never put any pics up of our studio, here on King William Road. So here’s one that gives a bit of an idea.
It’s slowly coming along. We’ve knocked out a wall and are gradually sorting out lighting and prints for the walls. It still needs some more furniture and a touch of style that I don’t possess, but we are getting there.
We have 3 offices and our central gallery area which you are now looking at (projector soon to replace the TV). We have a lovely little balcony looking out over King William Road with its many great stores and bridal boutiques below it’s great spot for a glass of wine on a Friday arvo..the street is also home to many great restaurants who’s delightful aromas waft constantly through our open balcony doors. I will get fat in time.
If you are in the area or planning a trip to the area, then we certainly welcome a visit. Our coffee rivals Cibo down the street (we do use their beans though
!
This is Truly Beautiful
What an amazing piece of art this is. I found this via a link on my photo lab’s site and wanted to share it with you all. Aside from the truly beautiful perspective by photographer Todd Heisler I just love the story told by both the images and Mr Cotton himself. Hope you enjoy. Click the picture below to view.
Emma and Ante | Engagement Session in the Adelaide Hills
I am not too sure that engagement shoot is the right word for this photo session, considering Emma and Ante have been together for 10 years. That aside, we did spend our time together as we would have had it been an engagement session – an hour or so of relaxed portraiture, getting to know how we all function together with camera in hand. I love these sessions and it’s a good way of discovering if a particular photographer is right for you both. Read More…
Some thanks from clients
From my perspective it should be us sending the thank you cards to couples and their families, for being trusted with the documentation of such a special day in the history of a family, being welcomed into their homes and being paid to do what we have some difficulty referring to as a job – we really do love what we do and I can’t believe I do what I do and I give thanks for it every day.
We are generally all such busy people, so it always blows me away when people take the time to send us some special words of thanks. On this occasion it was the parents of Katherine and Tim, who’s wedding we photographed back in March. It means a bunch to be thanked for doing what we do, so I just wanted to share their kind words with you. (I don’t think anyone has, or is likely ever again, to use me and genius in the same sentence…so I’m making the most of it !!!)
“ Dear Luke,
It might sound a bit cliche but words cannot convey our absolute delight when we saw the ‘sneak peek’.
We are sure words such as stunning, genius, perceptive and perfect have been used before to describe both you and your photographs and we would agree and have joined what must be a long list of admirers.
While we look forward to the blog post, we cannot imagine ever tiring of looking at the sneak peak, and for Margaret that will be every time she sits down at the computer, in other words, a number of times each day!
A most sincere thank you to both yourself and Dave.
Kindest regards,
Margaret, Paul and Sally. “
And from Tim’s folks -

Emma and Ante | Soon
I met with Emma and Ante on Friday for an afternoon session leading up to their wedding this weekend at Mt Lofty House. An image from our time on Friday. Will be a cracking wedding.
Lots of fun.
More to come before next weekend.
Lauren and Jakobi – Middlebrook Estate, McLaren Vale
Well, the day arrived and happened to be one of the most perfect days of the year. Perfect Autumn weather and a friendship of already more than 20 years to be celebrated.
I posted a week or so ago a little about the story behind Lauren and Jakobi’s relationship and how they met and it’s a pretty unique history.
This is a follow on from my recent post about Lauren and Jakobi, where I spoke about a photo Lauren has in her wallet, from when they were 3 or 4 years old, growing up together -
The thing I loved about the images more than anything was that it was a 20-something-year-old photograph that she had in her wallet – printed, not on her iphone wallpaper, an actual 20 year old, wallet sized print.
It highlighted to me once more, just how import it is to take that next step with those moments and actually PRINT THEM on proper archival photographic paper. Too many photographs and moments like Lauren and Jakobi’s disappear these days, lost in the world of numbers and codes we live in, never seeing the light of day.
I wonder how much of this is because we have such easy access to a camera of some sort, and it’s so much easier to just upload it to Facebook or email, mms or Flikr it, than it is to send the files to a professional printer, but it really is so easy to FTP or email that same image you just Facebooked to the printers. I am probably the very worst culprit when it comes to this and I have made a promise to myself (and my wife Carrie) that we will print some of our photographs THIS week. Maybe a good project for us all – find a photo we love (if you can find them !) and send it to the printer – not the cheap print shop at Hardly Normal or Photo Xpress but a professional lab – they need our support and will do a much better job of it. I’d love to see the images you choose too.
My challenge as a photographer is to not just take compelling, professional standard photographs, but to educate clients to the importance of professional printing, the value of it, and the role it needs to play in the photography process. I’ll ramble on again soon. I hope to hear from you and see some of your favourite photos.
Cheers,
Luke.
